Proverbs 15:29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous. (NKJV) The Lord is far from the wicked, in part for the wicked seem to keep their distance from the One who will hold them accountable in the judgement. To many unbelievers this dreaded judgement is just dismissed as being unbelievable, further pushing them away from the Grace and Mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a result, the weight of sin on an unbeliever grows with each passing day. As a believer the loving nature of Jesus Christ draws us near through the righteousness which is ours at the time we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. He hears the prayer of the righteous. Our Lord hears our prayers and welcomes us each time we call upon Him. These moments for the most part are private times between the believer and their Lord. Psalm 55:16-17 16 But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me. 17 Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice. (NLT) How many times have you been on the bed of affliction and wondered where God is in all of this? How many times have you faced indecision about something that was extremely important to you and wondered again, where is God in all of this. How many times in your life’s journey have you stopped and asked God, where are You? If you know Christ as your Lord and Savior, rest assured, He is there with you. You can call out to Him. Jeremiah 33:3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ (NIV). There are many more verses of proof throughout God’s Word. God is ever-present in your life as a believer and He hears your call to Him. He provides peace in the midst of storms as well as times of life decisions along your journey. Key Point: Call on Him! (NLT) What is this peace that Christ brings to His followers? At this time in the life of the Disciples, they were in great turmoil and then Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them.  “Peace be with you,”   Is this the same peace that we can have today? Yes! He offers this same peace today.  Are you going through anxiety of any kind? Is your job causing you problems? Is your marriage in trouble? Are your children or grandchildren in trouble? Are you too busy? Then Christ has a message for you….  “Peace be with you.”  Get God involved. Remember He IS able to do far more than we can imagine when we turn these problems over to Him. (NLT) John is writing about the all-consuming joy that he and the other Apostles experienced while with Christ.    In 1 John 1:1-3 John qualifies his experience with the Savior as being very real and worth his time in testimony to others that they too may understand the joy that comes through knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. John did not speak just to believers; he spoke to all that would give an ear to the hearing of his experience with Christ. John, by his writings, displayed boundless joy through knowing Christ personally. As a believer I can look back at my life as an unsaved man and see the positive changes that have taken place in my life since I have been saved. My home radiates Christ. Godly matters dominate the conversations within my home. We discuss sermons, prayer requests, spiritual needs around the world and great deliverers of God’s Word. Things that were important before like ball scores, teams of the American Conference and National Conference along with who’s who and who’s not and who got traded either in sports or in the home no longer carry the importance they once did. So, what do your children hear you discuss in the home? Do they see righteousness? Do you represent to them a holy God whom they want in their life? Psalms 119:11 I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You. (NIV) I was asked recently, “As a believer, what is the greatest deterrent against sin?” By staying in the Word of God as frequently as possible and spending time in prayer. Along with knowing Christ as our personal Savior, we need to build more of Christ into our lives on a daily basis. This can be done through Bible Study, devotional reading, prayer, quiet times alone reflecting on the greatness of God, singing Hymns, just to name a few. God wants a relationship with us as His children. The choir leader in this Psalm says in this verse, “I have treasured Your Word in my heart,” (NASB). By dwelling on God’s Word and its application to our lives, and truly seeking His will, our desire will be to not sin against Him. When we treasure something, we do not hide it away. Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed. (NIV) As Jesus is our greatest example in all things, we need to look at this scripture and give God an opportunity to make it very real to us as believers. Jesus had just come from a very busy day as we see in Mark 1:29-34 and the physical overnight rest was much needed. He was so refreshed the next morning that He immediately got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place to pray. He knew the day that was before Him would be every bit as demanding as the previous one, and we see that in Mark 1:36-45. Even though this new day was nothing different than the previous days of ministry, He prepared for this new day by spending time with the Father in prayer.
