The FIELD before us...

Good Evening Men! When I was a young boy around ten years old, our family lived on a farm that was no longer productive.  It had several barns on the property and several dirt roads that would carry you from one field to another.  There was about 26 acres in all.  My brother and I spent many hours and days especially during the Summer time exploring the entire farm.  I was the son that wanted to help Dad around the farm.  Not all the time mind you, but I always had a feeling that if I helped Dad, I would end up having fun someway. This particular day, Dad had decided to plow the upper field on the back of the farm near Back Creek that ran through the edge of the property.  I had always enjoyed that area of the farm.  I thought that Dad wanted me to look through the field and pull out rocks that might damage the Bottom Plow that trailed the Massey-Harris Pony tractor that we had on the farm.  Me and Jim had always wanted to drive the tractor bu...

God Has You In Mind (Part 2)

Psalm 37: 23-24 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand. Good Day Men! This Psalm is more than a few nice words. King David wrote this Psalm in his latter life.  He had experienced so very much in his walk with God over the years.  Through his experience with God he wrote many Psalms about peace and struggles with many things he encountered through the years along the journey.  But this Psalm reminds us that the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.  As David walked through his life he experienced God’s reliable closeness as he maintained his relationship through fellowship, reading of the Word and prayer with the Father.  In the process David experienced how God was delighted with his walk with Him.  But sometimes when we fail God and “fall” in our faith, David reminds us that our fall is not the end, for the Fat...

God Has You In Mind (Part 1)

Joshua 1: 6 Be strong and of good courage,….. Good Day Men! Over the years of knowing Christ as my Savior and looking to Him in all things, I have come to a better understanding of how close He wants us to follow Him throughout our lives.  Realizing this did not come easy, but my recognition of God’s presence during the difficult times grew me into a more solid believer in Christ.  More often than not we seem to move along without any real purpose and then all of a sudden something catastrophic occurs and we almost feel abandoned by God because we simply cannot sense His presence in this most recent life changing event.  Trust me, He is there. Today’s verse tells us to be strong and of good courage.  Even though this is only the beginning of this verse, we can see that God had already laid out what Joshua was going to be directed to do.  God’s direction involves great detail in every situation.  So much so, that this part of the verse is repea...

The High Cost of Giving in ……..to Temptation (Part 4)

John 10: 10 “ the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy .  I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” Good Day Men! Today we will conclude with “the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy .  I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” As much as Satan hates us as believers, the result in seeking Christ instead is seen in this last part of the verse, especially in the words “life” and “abundantly”.  Our life in Christ and our relationship with Him as well as an active and vibrant fellowship will equal a life with purpose and full of the great joy which comes in serving Him.  There is nothing in serving Christ that can ever be boring.  Sometimes it feels like God is just still and quiet in our lives especially when we are expecting and waiting for Him to do something in answer to our prayers.  In reality we need to be thankful for those quiet t...

The High Cost of Giving in ……..to Temptation (Part 3)

John 10: 10 “ the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy .  I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” Good Day Men! Today we will continue today with “the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to  destroy. ” Satan continues to hate us as believers and will continue to do so until the end of time as we know it.  Our final win will be when God casts him into the lake of fire as seen in Revelation 20: 10. Until then life as we know it will be challenged by Satan and people will be tempted by him to do awful things as an attempt to damage and injure our relationship with our heavenly Father.  We know he comes to steal, and to kill and now we see he also comes to DESTROY us in any way he can.  One of the greatest tools in his arsenal is discouragement.  If he can discourage a believer and leave them feeling beat down and worthless he has destroyed their testimony. As believers ...

The High Cost of Giving in ……..to Temptation (Part 2)

John 10: 10 “ the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill , and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” Good Day Men! Today we will continue with “the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill …..” Satan still hates us as believers.  In some cases we need to fear all Satan is capable of doing to us.  But that should never be allowed to control our thoughts and dictate our direction through life.  Satan is only as powerful as God the Father allows him to become.  Personally I have at times given in to temptation, and the guilt associated with that fall into sin is great to say the least.  At times the fact that I gave in to the temptation hurts far more than the commission of the actual sin itself.  Let’s face facts, God hates sin.  He always has and always will.  And we should hate sin the same way.  A friend of mine David was sharing in our men’s group several years a...

The High Cost of Giving in ……..to Temptation

John 10: 10 “ the thief does not come except to steal , and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” Good Day Men! Over the years of being involved in Men’s Ministry, and discussing sin in various group settings, I have determined that we often read the verse for today in completion as if we run through it and not absorb the intended intensity that I believe Jesus Christ meant for us to understand.    So beginning today we will be stepping through each component mentioned here. Today we will start with “the thief does not come except to steal …..” Satan hates us as believers.  And yes, hate is a STRONG word.  Rightfully so because Satan is a strong, strong enemy, with strong, strong capabilities of consuming hate.  It is easy to ask God to give the same hate for sin as He has, and this should do it, right?  No! Not right.  Yes, Satan is a defeated foe, but that doesn’t keep him...

Moving Through Life (with Purpose)

Psalms 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.  (NKJV) Good Day Men,      Often times we enter each day in the same routine way, not giving much thought as to what lies ahead of us.  As for me, that first cup of coffee is always a welcome sight and it basically signals my day to begin.  As routine as that is, all the way down to setting the timer and preparing the coffee the night before, we seem to be in a somewhat automatic mode to just getting out the door.  On my way to work, everything seems to change.  I have to be alert in traffic, and I need to always be on the lookout for careless and sometimes even sleepy drivers.  I constantly review my mirrors and watch for those around me.  And then, I arrive at work.  Whew! I made through another hour of traffic again unscathed, WHEW!            In our verse for today I have underlined t...
