The Seven Promises of a Promise Keeper
Promise Keepers 1993-2024-2
The attendance of that conference in Indianapolis Indiana
at the Hosier Dome was a little over 70,000. Many conferences over the next
several years averaged between 60,000 and 70,000. Several conferences were held
throughout the year, mostly from early summer into mid-fall. Some conferences were
held in open stadiums and others held in enclosed arenas. One was even held at
the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Before we get into the individual promises, I have listed
the seven promises below to give you an idea of the direction we will be
following.
I am currently working on a biography covering the years
I was able to attend the conferences. Several years we were able to attend more
than one conference and sometimes three. At the time the individual admission
was $72.00 per person. Most of the men were from young families and the
admission price was hard to come by, plus we had to add the cost for an
overnight stay which varied anywhere from $50.00 to $75.00 per night. For some
of the men that were going we were able to scholarship into the events through
donations at the church along with the cost of the motel rooms.
We started off by offering a church-wide opportunity at
my home church to attend at least one conference. The response was quite modest.
Around 15 signed up and we joined another church which required a total of
three full-size cruiser buses. The church sponsoring the buses gave us all a
big send-off providing breakfast so we wouldn’t have to stop along the way.
This conference was held in Atlanta, Georgia, a total of six hours from my home
in North Carolina.
I will stop now and let you take a look at the seven
promises below. We had seven speakers at each event covering one of each of the
promises. The time they shared covers anywhere from fifty to sixty-five
minutes. Each speaker held the attention of all the attendees to the point you could
hear a pin drop. Men were obviously hungry for what the Word of God says to
them as men. All I can say is “mission accomplished”.
