Instructions Of A Father
Proverbs 4: 1 Hear O sons, the instruction of a father, And give attention that you may gain understanding, (NASB)
As I look at
this verse for the day I see the seriousness of our responsibilities as fathers
to our children. Just as we are to look to our heavenly Father for His
wisdom applied to our lives through His Word, our children look to us so that
they too, in life, will gain understanding.
How prepared
are we as dads to reveal to our children the truths of life as revealed in the
Bible. The first thing they see is our walk. We can say all we want,
but unless our walk reflects what we say, our children will not take what we
say seriously. At times they will test us and push us to the
limit. We MUST stick to our convictions. We also must fulfill the promises
we have made to our kids. If we told them we would be there for them at a
game, or some performance, or activity, we better be there. If we are not,
then the power of trust they place in us as dads will become diminished and in time,
they will not believe anything we say. If we want our children to take
what we say as instructions of a father, then we must become
consistent in all we say and do. You would think I was just referring to
younger children, but in reality, I am including adult children as well.
Start today
and look at the path you have set for yourself. Is it God honoring? It can be
if we look to the Word for God’s direction in our lives. Our children are
watching. So are our wives. Do you want to experience greater love in
your family? Let God guide you into a fuller life in Him and your wife
will become more in love with you. There is nothing more satisfying to a
wife than to see and experience her husband growing into a man of God. God
moving in your life WILL affect every life you touch.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, help me to be
true to my word as You are to Your Word. May I continue to look for guidance
through Your Word. May I reflect You at every opportunity. In Jesus’ name I
pray! AMEN!!!
Have a
Blessed Day!!!
