A lamp? A light? REALLY?
Good Day Men!
When I was a young boy around 8-10 years old we lived in the country outside of Burlington, NC, USA. It was 26 acres of adventure. In the daytime we could see really well and traveled all over that old farm. We discovered the creek on the back of the property, and the sandy beaches where cattle used to cross many years before. It was fun to explore. But at night, things changed quite a bit. We had to have a flashlight to get around and back then the batteries and light-bulb weren't too good. You could barely see more than ten feet in front of you and what lay beyond that could be a bit scary to say the least. Sometimes we'd carry a gas lantern and that was a lot better and you could see fifty feet in front of you. But when the gas gave out or the batteries died, that changed everything. The world is a lot scarier in the dark and that should be the way we feel when we walk along without the lamp or light to guide the way.
The above is a real life illustration that occurred several times during my boyhood. I remember those times with great clarity. The first time I ran across today's verse I thought back to those times when the light gave out and we had to finish the walk in the dark. It was scary. But did you know you can walk along in the light of today's sun and see the way clearly, but still be walking in the dark. We dismiss this by saying I can see where I'm going, I'm okay, but what is in your heart? Are there hidden sins under the surface that are eating at your insides like rust on an old car? Satan wants you to dismiss those as "harmless". Those sins grieve the Holy Spirit who lives inside you as a believer. How do I know? Ephesians 4: 25-32 describe the sins that grieve God through the Holy Spirit. We are even told the sins in pretty good detail through these verses.
Ah, but the darkness. It's time to turn on the light and let God show you those questionable issues that damage your relationship with God, our Father. let's step out a bit farther and look at Psalms 119: 105, Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. This is how King David saw God. God is a revealer and He does this with the Word. He shines a bright spiritual light on issues in our lives that Satan has had a hand in that will bring us down and damage our testimony and our lives.
How can we address this? By keeping short accounts of our sins through confession to God and His forgiveness and repentance (turning around and going toward God). Our relationship with Him can be wonderful if we do our part in bring our sins to Him.
Today is the day, the time is now. Take any questionable issues in your life to God and let Him deal with it. He can make you LIKE NEW!
Today' verses, Psalms 119: 105, Ephesians 4: 25-32 (30), 1 John 1: 9.
The journey continues.......
Prayer: Dear Father in Heaven, guide us into a fruitful relationship with You. In Jesus' name, AMEN!
