A Call to Holy Living (cont'd)
1 Peter 1: 14 As obedient children do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. (HCSB)
Good Day Everyone!
Peter is telling us to guard our life in Christ by being obedient. We are to guard or life in Christ against invasion from Satan and his workers. Satan may no longer have our souls as believers but that doesn't keep him from trying to damage our testimony and discourage our hearts. So we must actively pursue our relationship with Christ by reading His Word, Prayer, and meditation on His desires for our lives. Sometimes we need to make adjustments in our lives to move into actively being "Conformed" to the person Christ wants us to become. Adjustments take work and it takes time but it is so worth it so don't become discouraged in the process. Pray for patience and God will answer because you are honoring Him in this process.
Now about the "former ignorance". Don't be offended, but to tell the truth, Satan wants you ignorant, truly ignorant. And if he can block your growth in Christ in any way he will begin that trek in drawing you back into that ignorant state he can use and manipulate and ultimately discourage your heart in this journey. So WE must stay the course. One of my greatest defenses is ti carry or have near me within easy reach a copy of the Bible. I have a small Gideon style pocket size Bible that goes with me everywhere. Sometimes I will read a verse or two at a stalled traffic light or even pull over near a public walking park and venture out to one of the benches and relax a little over His Word. A verse or two now will eventually turn into a chapter or two later. Growth takes time and this journey will be an eternity for which we must prepare.
Key thought: God draws us into a deeper relationship with Him through our dedication in action to seek Him where He may be found. His Word is powerful.
Prayer: Dear Father in Heaven, guide me each step of the way that I may experience more deeply this journey leading me closer in my relationship to You. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN!
