Moving Through Life (with Purpose)

Psalms 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. (NKJV)

Often, we enter each day in the same routine way, not giving much thought as to what lies ahead of us. That first cup of coffee is always a welcome sight, and it basically signals the day to begin. As routine as that is, all the way down to setting the timer and preparing the coffee the night before, it seems to be a somewhat automatic mode of just getting out the door. On our way to work, everything seems to change. We must be alert in traffic, and we need to always be on the lookout for careless and sometimes even sleepy drivers. We constantly review our mirrors and watch for those around us. And then, we arrive at work. Whew! We made it through traffic again unscathed. WHEW!

In our verse for today, I have underlined the word guide. Often in our rush to get out the door to work so we will not be late, we seem to forget to include God in our morning. He promised to guide us, but we simply cannot depend on His guidance if we carelessly neglect His Word and His presence. In the early part of this verse, we see two other key words, instruct and teach. We need to ask God to guide us as we leave the house. We do not need to overlook these two powerful words, instruct and teach.

Several years ago, I arose and got coffee and settled into my normal routine and got ready for work. I realized I had an extra five minutes, so I sat down in my favorite chair and noticed my Bible on the table beside me. I opened it to Psalm 32:8. I acknowledged quickly that I had left God out of my morning routine in previous days. He also directed me to Proverbs 3:5-8. That day was the beginning of my time alone with God before I started my morning routine. My days were clearer and more defined by God’s Word. I was realizing He really was instructing me and teaching me His great principles for life.

Key Thought: The Word of God is full of inspirational texts that HE wants to reveal to us. As believers, we are not in this walk of life alone. He will never leave us nor forsake us. For us to benefit from this close relationship with Him, we need to come to know Him more.

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father; Show me how to look to You with greater purpose as You fill my life with Your Word. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!

Have a Blessed Day!!!

In Christ,

Ted Wilkins
