BILLBOARDS!!!! Roads Signs!!!
Have you ever driven down the highway either two lane or four lane or more and been distracted by a Billboard or Road Sign? Of course you have, we all have. On my way to work the other day I began counting Billboards. Some were stationary, some old, and some too old! Some were digital (making you want to slow down below the speed limit to read or see all the advertisements) and some were small grabbing your attention to read the fine print. Funny though, I don't remember what they were advertising. But there is one thing for sure, I was distracted, and I don't even remember what the signs were saying. Consumer 26, Vendor 0. But what could I have been looking for?about Road Signs. Speed Signs (ugh) reduce speed signs (double ugh). There is one sign I would like to find but I believe they have all been taken down, "Resume Safe Speed". Now I liked that one except it was normally followed by a 55 MPH 100 yards down the road. But for the moment I resumed a safe speed, and at 16 years old several years ago you can imagine what the "safe speed" was for me.
The State Road Signs are there to guide us through safe driving. Well I thank the Lord for cruise control. But I can truthfully say I abide the State Road Signs for the most part. I have never gotten but one warning ticket in my life and that was at 17 and another ticket when I was 24, quite a few years ago.
But why do I cover Billboards and Road Signs. That's easy, the Road Signs are there to keep you safe and the Billboards are there to distract you. Over the next few days we will cover what kind of distractions hurt us and what kind of safeguards protect us.
It's interesting about my daily highway drive. I drive approximately 120 miles per day. The highway upon which I travel is beginning to see the need for repairs, some major and some minor. I complained about the need for repairs and now I am complaining about the construction zones through which I travel and it seems to be getting larger and SLOWER!
All of this is beginning to come together as we not only deal with BILLBOARDS and Road Signs but now we must add in........... THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE!!!!!
Distractions (Billboards), Guidance (Road Signs) and now, the Construction Zone! Yes, it ALL hits us at the same time.
See you tomorrow in the Construction Zone! ~~~~~~~~~~~~
