Do Your Fears Control You?

2 Tim 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (NLT)

The Lord does not want to see us hindered by our fears. Fear of the unknown is reasonable, but it shouldn’t paralyze our spirit to inaction.

Have you ever wanted to share your life in Christ with others? Have you ever seen someone with a serious health issue that would benefit from your testimony in Christ? When Nehemiah was standing before King Artaxerxes in Nehemiah 2:1 he had already spent time anguishing over the news from Jerusalem. He had already been praying about what needed to be done. What we don’t see is that God was already preparing the heart of the King to answer what needed to be done. Verse 4-5 The king asked, “Well, how can I help you?” With a prayer to the God of heaven, 5 I replied, “If it please the king, and if you are pleased with me, your servant, send me to Judah to rebuild the city where my ancestors are buried.” God had been working in the heart of Nehemiah as well as King Artaxerxes so much so that the King prepared a caravan of soldiers and materials for the trip to Jerusalem to accomplish the task.

God had already been working in the heart of Nehemiah and King Artaxerxes. He does the same in our hearts as we journey through life. We need to be prepared with our life stories and events that may contribute to those in need or may even be suffering with terminal illness. Sometimes God has prepared your heart for such a time as this. Nehemiah said, “With a prayer to the God of heaven.” He didn’t stop what he was doing and bow in prayer. He already had the attitude and the heart of prayer in place and God was ready and willing to answer. The words that needed to be in place were already there and were being unfolded at that very moment. God only asked for a willing heart. I find it very interesting that God chose a cupbearer of the king and not someone associated with construction for the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. God orchestrated the rebuilding of the Jerusalem walls from start to finish and in record time, fifty-two days.

Key Point: Our God is capable of the impossible. He is also capable of building your testimony for others in need. Step out and get ready. God will use you if you make yourself available to Him.

Prayer: Dear Father in Heaven, Guide my heart to those who need to hear about You through me. Encourage my testimony that I may share with others of Your incredible grace and mercy. Help me to be patient and be aware of Your timing that I may be ready when You call on me. In Jesus’ name I pray! AMEN!!!

Word of God…...

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God endures forever.” (NIV) What a promise this is! I have listened to people try to justify their actions by using the Word of God and compromising what it says to meet their particular needs. God’s Word needs no help. In this particular verse, we see that there is no room for compromise. We can lean on His Word, stand on His Word, speak, teach, and preach His Word, and the only thing we must do is let Him guide our hearts and minds in the delivery of His Word to others. Our confidence in His Word must be sound and unshakable, but we must also be able to accept humility when we do not understand what it says and seek His guidance to know Him more.
