Paul’s Prayer For Us (Part 2 of 2)

Philippians 1:10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ. (Phil. 1:9-11) (NIV)

Through the knowledge and depth of insight, it is Paul’s prayer that we will be able to discern what is best and pure and blameless and that we hold onto these values until the coming of our Lord. Through time as we learn, these values become a great asset. We grow deeper in wisdom through the study and application of God’s Word in our lives. 

Sometimes we need to look at our lives in comparison to the life of Christ and make adjustments in our course that will guide us to that spiritual discernment that God has for us. Our scale of comparison is Christ himself. Yes, it is true; we can never be identical to Him in His absolute completeness for if we could then the Cross would not have been necessary. We could have done this on our own. 

It is interesting to match our personal life silhouette outlines with the life of Christ. Everywhere you see a gap in our differences (which are there, some bigger than others) you will see it shaded in with the word “Grace,” or the phrase “Covered by the Blood.” Only through the Blood of Christ can we become the man or woman God desires us to become. Only God’s grace can see us through life events. Only through our personal intimate relationship in Christ can we obtain that spiritual discernment so valuable to the believer. It cannot be purchased or bargained for. Spiritual discernment can only be given through the grace of God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. Through our love for Him and His desire to feed those who truly seek Him, we can gain His kind of love for others, and His holy spiritual discernment in the things of life.

Key Thought: Yes, Paul knew exactly what he was writing about, for he had tasted of the fruit of his beloved Christ. To know Him and to appreciate Him is to seek Him in His Word and through a life of prayer and study.

Prayer: Dear Lord, Give me Your values for my life. Draw me near to You as you reveal Your Word to me through daily application. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!!!

Word of God…...

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God endures forever.” (NIV) What a promise this is! I have listened to people try to justify their actions by using the Word of God and compromising what it says to meet their particular needs. God’s Word needs no help. In this particular verse, we see that there is no room for compromise. We can lean on His Word, stand on His Word, speak, teach, and preach His Word, and the only thing we must do is let Him guide our hearts and minds in the delivery of His Word to others. Our confidence in His Word must be sound and unshakable, but we must also be able to accept humility when we do not understand what it says and seek His guidance to know Him more. In His Word we find clarity through research, life applications everywhere we look, and strength in time of need as well as comfort in time of trouble. Above all, His Word still stands. (NKJV) Henry Blackaby once said, “Watch to see where God is working and join Him in His work.” Busy lives often cause us to become complacent in what God truly wants in our lives. Serving God does not pertain to just Pastors and Teachers of the Word of God. When we look around, we see God at work in many places, not just inside the church walls. We see Him in the co-worker who shares with others about what God has done in their lives. We see Him in the small group Bible Studies. We see him in many ministries around the world.
