Paul’s Prayer For Us (Part 1 of 2)

Philippians 1: 9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, NIV)

Good Day Everyone!

In today’s verse, we see Paul’s concern for the Philippians.  His prayer is that their love will abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight.  Depth of love can be better understood when we compare it to the love that Christ has for us as believers.  God only wants what is best for us as His children.  His best involves the same depth of love that took Christ to the cross, dying for our sins that we may spend eternity with Him in Heaven.

I remember a few years ago the phrase “I love ya man!” was quite popular.  Even seeing this phrase used in commercials on the television left me with the sense that the person stating that phase wanted something from the party that heard it.  The same can be said with the phrase “Do you LOVE Meeeee?”  This is usually followed by a request for something.  There is nothing wrong with a little fun but sometimes phrases like this should make us stop and think.

The knowledge and depth of insight involving the love Paul is referring to, does not include selfish motives.  The knowledge and depth of insight concerning the kind of love Paul is referring to is the same kind of servanthood love that only comes from the desire to love someone through the giving of one’s self as Christ did throughout his ministry here on earth.  This kind of love does not relate to what I can get from someone, but what I can give to someone through the love that Christ has given me.  We are responsible for how we address and promote that depth and knowledge of love so that we may better show others, even our mates and children, the love that Christ wants to show through us to them.

Love is an act of giving and receiving, not taking and commanding! The act of giving yourself to others is a great gift.  God did this through his Son Jesus Christ.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, Make me a reflection of your love to those around me.  Grow me more in your love for others that I may better reflect you to this lost and dying world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May God richly bless us as we continue seek His will, and His way, through His Word.

Have a GREAT Day!!!

In Christ,
