He Went To Pray….

Matthew 14: 23 And after He had sent the multitudes away, He went up to the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone.  (NASB)

We have examples throughout Gods Word of ways we can pray and examples of ways that God showed His people how to address Him in prayer.  First, we must be clean.  Psalms 66: 18 states that “if I regard wickedness in my heart, the Lord will not hear”. (NASB)  We need to ask forgiveness from God for our sins so that we may approach the throne of grace clean before a holy God.  Is there really any other way to be before Him?  As for myself, I do not want to go before a holy God unclean.  I want His cleansing of my heart as often as necessary so that I might not hinder His access to me.  We all as believers want to be used by Him.  In the verse for today we have the example of Christ going off away from the multitudes of people in order to get away and be at peace with the father during a period of exhaustion.  The crowds had left Him drained and tired and His father called Him away for a time of quiet meditation.  This was God but He was still in human form and need to rest the physical and recuperate the spiritual.  Even after the devil had tempted Him after 40 days of fasting early in His ministry, God sent angels to minister to him in His spiritual and physical recovery.  In the quiet surroundings of the mountain He was alone with His Father who gave Him rest.  God led His son…beside the still waters, He restoreth my soul. (Psalm 23).  Christ found rest and restoration in the Father as we should too.  He calls us to come to Him and we should respond to His call and get time alone with a Holy Father so He can minister to our needs.  God expects us to come to Him for rest.  Look at Matthew 11: 28-30 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”. (KJV) He knows that we will find rest in Him.  That refreshing spiritual and physical renewal results in such power in our souls when it comes from the Father above.  Take time to rest and pray and sense the renewal in your hearts knowing that God is still in control.

Prayer:  Dear God, guide me into Your presence in a powerful way that I may have time to meditate on Your Word and be restored.  Show me Your peace that I may too experience Your call on my heart to come and get alone with You. Make me sensitive to that call that I may experience the same rest that Your Son Jesus Christ did when You called Him away to meditate, pray and be restored in You.   In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

May God richly bless us as we continue to seek His will, and His way, through His Word.

Have a GREAT Day!!!
