Your First Five Minutes..... (Part 1 of 3)

Philippians 5: 16 Rejoice always,  (NKJV)

Several years ago I was listening to a Pastor as he delivered a message on how our lives should reflect what Jesus was doing in our hearts.  He suggested keeping a log or journal on our daily activities just to see where some changes might need to be made.  This particular part of the message stayed with me and I began to carefully watch how my day went and I began a spiritual and mental log of my activities throughout each day for about a week.

From the time I got up to the time I went to bed I kept a log of what I did and how I felt.  I was surprised at how my life seemed to leave a consistent and boringly dull trail.  I really didn’t like what I saw.  I began to make changes.  I began jotting down scriptures supporting the areas of change I sensed needed to occur.  My first change came in the morning.  It seemed sort of silly at the time but I woke up, sat on the side of the bed and recited this common verse; “This is the day that the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalms 118:24)  I must admit the first time I said it, it didn’t seem to have much of an affect on me.  But the verse wouldn’t go away.  I got dressed and went outside to get the paper and I repeated the verse.  This time was a bit different.  I began to see the beauty of God’s creation in my surroundings.  No, it wasn’t sunny, it was cold and light rain was falling, but not enough for an umbrella.  Suddenly I repeated the verse aloud and I sensed the beauty of God’s cleansing rain and how he provides for the plants and feeds the birds and waters livestock.  So I repeated that same verse again, and He showed me the cleansing power of His Word in my life.  I continued to speak that verse and think that verse throughout the day and saw God move in my daily activities.  His Word caused me to pay closer attention to His purposes in my life.

So let’s “Rejoice always”, and focus on God’s plan for our lives so we won’t miss His wonderful blessings as He pours them into our lives each and everyday.

Prayer:  Dear Lord Jesus, Help me to always have an attitude of praise and rejoicing each and every day.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

May God richly bless us as we continue to seek His will, and His way, through His Word.

Have a GREAT Day!!!
