Sons of God
Romans 8: 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,
these are the sons of God. (NKJV)
Coming on the heels of the previous devotionals on building a house,
today’s verse rings clear as the reward of our following Christ ……….
closely. We must commit to the
leadership of the Holy Spirit to guide us in the ways of God as revealed by His
Word. Some of you, no doubt have begun
the research necessary to build your house on the principles found in God’s
Word. I’ve given you the key on how the
house is established, and we have put the key in the door lock, but something
happens. Suddenly in reading God’s Word
we appear to have lost interest because you have not found the entire path to
be clear in your reading. Do not give up
here. Move forward and call out to God
to instruct the Holy Spirit to guide you along the way and to make the
scriptures come to life, and then prayerfully get ready.
I used this illustration the other day at the evening service at the
church I pastor. When God is building
the house, are you laying the brick, or is God laying the brick? In brick laying I have seen apprentices hand
each individual brick to the brick mason as he constructs the wall beginning
with the corner. Each brick is handed
the same way in the same orientation so that the brick mason doesn’t even have
to look at the brick and he can keep his eye on the exact placement of the
incoming brick handed to him by the apprentice.
Now if you are so good at laying brick then you can lay each brick as
God hands you each one. The time will
come when you look back at the wall of your house you have constructed and it
is not even close to what it could be if the Master had laid each brick you handed
Him. When we are studying God’s Word we
are learning how to hand God each brick of our house, and we can even watch as
He carefully places it into position.
This is where God is growing you into His man as you read His Word. Each Word you read from the Bible will be
accounted for in your life or a life you touch.
This is being “sons of God”. We
treat His Word with respect and in so doing; honor Him with its application in
our lives. Does this take time? Sure it does, but it will be the most
rewarding thing you ever do with the exception of asking Christ to come into
your life.
Don’t give up on your efforts in seeking God in your life. He is there and He will answer.
Prayer: Dear Father in Heaven, Guide me into your
presence and give me a peace as I seek to know You more. Honor my request to be more like Your Son
Jesus Christ that I too may become “sons of God”. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN!
May God richly bless us as we
continue seek His will, and His way, through His Word.
Have a GREAT Day!!!
In Christ,
