The 23rd Psalm (Part 2)

Psalm 23: 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me besides the still waters. (NKJV)

Have you ever been driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway or through the Shenandoah Valley on the east coast and pass those beautiful meadows with shady trees standing in the cool breeze rustling in the wind?  Or have you passed by those cool waters of a flowing brook as it goes by the roadside.  Those are special places.  The brook is especially curious.  The water may go by over rocks and around the bends, and if you look long enough you will see the area where in the midst of the passing waters, there is an area that water is still, a pocket where water goes but is away from the constant flow of the rushing waters.  Those are the still waters.  Still waters also exist at the end of the brook or river as it empties into a lake or even the ocean.  In the middle of the rushing waters there is rest.  At the end of the journey there is rest.  Along the way there are meadows where we can stop and rest beneath the trees.  These aren’t places in the mind alone.  They are also in the heart.  Just recently I was up at Chimney Rock Park in the eastern part of the North Carolina Mountains visiting my wife’s family.  And while we were there we walked by the rushing waters at the foot of the great Chimney Rock. In the shadow of that mountain I saw rest.  I saw the clear rushing waters and the pockets of still waters.

Seeing these things made by God, I reflected on how God, in the midst of a violent personal storm gives rest from the battle while the war rages on.  He calls us to rest in Him.  We can obviously trust Him for it because God doesn’t lie.  So I challenge you today, to seek out that place in the midst of your personal storm and seek His face.  Whatever your storm may be, He is there to provide rest for the weary.  He knows we get tired in the battles of life.  He wants us to rest completely in Him.  We don’t understand what is happened and for what purpose all of the things are happening in our life but we do know that God is still in control and wants to guide us through.  He will provide peace for you in the midst of your storm (2 Thes. 3:16).  Trust Him today.

PrayerDear God, Guide me into that perfect rest.  Show me your peace in the midst of my storm.  May I take the time to learn all that You would have me to gain through this experience.  May I never waste a moment in self-pity, but anchor my trust in You.  In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN!

May God richly bless us as we continue seek His will, and His way, through His Word.

Have a GREAT Day!!!
