He Has Shown You

Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? (KKJV)

During this time in the proclamation of the Prophet Micah, he was calling the Israelites to return to tradition and more fully understand the animal blood sacrifices. Many had reduced the sacrifices by just going through the motions in their ways and means. They had fallen into complacency. The sacrifice was in place, but the heart was not. They had lost their heart in following what God had intended. They had stopped taking God seriously, and their fellowship with Him as well as fellow Israelites suffered for it. Distancing ourselves from God results in the same outcome.
How does this apply to us today? Do we tell someone we are praying for them just to comfort them, or do we really take the time to honor their request? Do we just depend on the church services for our weekly spiritual feeding and encouragement, or do we read and study the scriptures on our own throughout the week?
A number of years ago, I personally witnessed this very thing take place. This person sincerely asked for prayer for their son, and everyone agreed to pray. I was not expecting this. It would have been wonderful that these folks were trusted to pray for this person’s son. When this person left the room, several of these folks began to make fun of this heart felt request. I was devastated! I thought I knew these folks. I was wrong. I was brokenhearted that they took prayer so light heartedly. They did the lip service only. They obviously did not take this request seriously.
The Israelites did not take their blood sacrifices personally and seriously either. They just went through the motions. There was no heart in their offering, and God more than noticed this for He knows the intent of the heart (Heb. 4:12).
Micah offered God’s direct message to the people and no doubt there was conviction among the camp. God’s direct message to the Israelites through Micah then is just as powerful and directing as it is now. What does the Lord require of you But to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
Key Thought: When we begin to take God for granted, we become complacent. Live life with a greater focus and “Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.”
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, guard my heart against complacency and help me to experience a closeness with You that I take prayer seriously as well as my daily walk. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN!!!
Have a Blessed and Wonderful Day!!!
