He Went Up…...
Matthew 14:23 After He had dismissed them, He went up on a mountainside by Himself to pray. Later that night, He was there alone, (NIV)
We have examples throughout Gods Word of ways we can pray and examples of ways that God showed His people how to address Him in prayer. First, we must be clean. Psalms 66: 18 states that “if I regard wickedness in my heart, the Lord will not hear”. We need to ask forgiveness from God for our sins so that we may approach the throne of grace, clean before a holy God. Is there really any other way to be before Him? As for myself, I do not want to go before a holy God unclean. I want His cleansing of my heart as often as necessary so that I might not hinder His access to me. We all as believers want to be used by Him.
In the verse for today we have the example of Christ going off away from the multitudes of people to get away and be at peace with the Father during a period of exhaustion. The crowds had left Him drained and tired, and His father called Him away for a time of quiet meditation. This was God but He was still in human form and needed to physically rest and recuperate spiritually. Even after the devil had tempted Him after 40 days of fasting early in His ministry, God sent angels to minister to him in His spiritual and physical recovery. In the quiet surroundings of the mountain, He was alone with His Father who gave Him rest. God led His Son…beside the still waters, He restoreth my soul. (Psalm 23). Christ found rest and restoration in the Father, as we should too. He calls us to come to Him, and we should respond to His call and get time alone with our Holy Father so He can minister to our needs and prepare our hearts for what lies ahead.
God expects us to come to Him for rest. Look at Matthew 11:28-30 “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”. (KJV) God knows that we will find rest in Him. That refreshing spiritual and physical renewal results in such power in our souls when it comes from the Father above.
Key Thought: Take time to rest and pray and sense the renewal in your hearts knowing that God is still in control.
Prayer: Dear Father in Heaven, Guide me into Your rest, that I too may find peace and contentment, with a refreshing time alone with You. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Have a GREAT day!!!!!
In Christ,
